Configuring LexisNexis InstantID

LexisNexis is a data provider that offers InstantID, which you can use to run the Electronic identity check on individuals residing in the United States.

Unlike other data providers for the Electronic identity check, LexisNexis InstantID does not return the number of sources used to match the individual. This means that, although the overall result displays "1+1" when a partial match is achieved and "2+2" when a full match is achieved, the number of sources is not considered when determining whether the check passes or returns a partial match. See the descriptions below to learn what causes this check to pass or return a partial match.

How it works

This is the default behaviour of the Electronic identity check, without any configuration options applied (i.e. identity number is not a required field and date of birth is not a required field). To learn how this default behaviour changes when options are applied, see Configuration options.

This check is performed by searching the individual's details (name, address, and either date of birth or social security number) in the sources supplied by LexisNexis InstantID.

The check passes when when either of these conditions are true:

  1. The individual's full name and address are matched in one source from LexisNexis InstantID.
  2. The individual's full name, date of birth, and social security number are matched in one source from LexisNexis InstantID.

If the conditions for a pass cannot be met, the check tries to find a partial match.

The check returns a partial match when either of these conditions are true:

  1. The individual's full name and date of birth are matched in one source from LexisNexis InstantID.
  2. The individual's full name and social security number are matched in one source from LexisNexis InstantID.

If the conditions are not met for a pass or a partial match, the check fails.

If the individual's profile doesn't have data for the required fields, the check returns an error.

If the individual's address or national identity number has a country other than the US, the check returns an error.

If the individual has multiple addresses, the most recent address is used. If no dates are provided, the address is selected at random.

Configuration options

You can use the following configuration options:

  • Use the most recent previous address if the result isn't a 2+2: When this option is selected, the individual's most recent address is used to run the check the first time. If the check fails or a partial match is returned, the check is run again automatically using the next most recent address. The check is only run again automatically once.
When this option is selected, any time the check is run again automatically, you are charged for the second check.
If the addresses provided on the individual's profile do not include dates, the addresses used for this check are selected at random.
  • Identity number is one of the required fields: When this option is selected, the individual's social security number is required for the check to Pass.

This means the check only passes when either of the following conditions are met:

    1) The individual's full name, date of birth, and social security number are matched in one source.

    2) The individual's full name and social security number are matched in one source.

The check returns a partial match when either of the following conditions are met:

    1) The individual's full name and date of birth are matched in one source.

    2) The individual's full name and address are matched in one source.
  • DOB is one of the required fields: When this option is selected, the individual's date of birth is required for the check to Pass.

This means the check only passes when either of the following conditions are met:

    1) The individual's full name, date of birth, and social security number are matched in one source.

    2) The individual's full name and date of birth are matched in one source.

The check returns a partial match when either of the following conditions are met:

    1) The individual's full name and social security number are matched in one source.

    2) The individual's full name and address are matched in one source.
When the configuration options for Identity number is one of the required fields and DOB is one of the required fields are both used, the check only passes when the individual's full name, social security number, and date of birth are matched in one source. The check returns a partial match when any of the following are true: 1) The individual's full name and social security number are matched in one source; 2) The individual's full name and date of birth are matched in one source; 3) The individual's full name and address are matched in one source.

What we'll need

Let us know that you'd like to add a variant of the Electronic identity check with LexisNexis InstantID and which configuration options you'd like to use. We'll set it up for you.

To complete the configuration, we'll need:

  • Your LexisNexis InstantID username and password so we can add it to our set up.
  • You to ask LexisNexis to whitelist our IP address for your account: 35.195.138.186

For help whitelisting our IP address or getting your LexisNexis InstantID username and password this information, please contact your LexisNexis account manager.

Testing your configuration

Once the check variant is configured, follow these steps in your demo environment to test whether it's working as expected.

  1. Does the check pass? To run the test, create any individual profile with an address in the United States, and run the check variant. If the check passes, it's working as expected.
  2. Does the check return a partial match? To run the test, create any individual profile with an address in the United States and "PARTIAL" as a given name or the surname (e.g. "Alex PARTIAL Wheeler"), and run the check variant. If the check returns a partial match, it's working as expected.
  3. Does the check fail when the conditions are not met for a pass or partial match? To run the test, create any individual profile with an address in the United States and "FAIL" as a given name or the surname (e.g. "Alex FAIL Wheeler"), and run the check variant. If the check fails, it's working as expected.
The test words are not case-sensitive.
